'THE OSBOURNES' A Huge Hit In Canada
September 20, 2002The Osbournes' Canadian debut on the CTV network this past Tuesday attracted an impressive 1.67 million viewers, Nielsen Media Research reported on Wednesday.
The series — which follows the wildly dysfunctional lives of Ozzy Osbourne, his manager/wife Sharon and their children Kelly and Jack — was previously only available to digital subscribers with MTV Canada.
CTV, which airs the show uncensored, received about 250 phone calls on Wednesday complaining about the graphic content, said communications director Mike Cosentino.
The Osbournes are currently in production on their second season, which MTV Canada will air after CTV wraps its run of the first year.
In related news, Louis Osbourne, the oldest son of Ozzy, recently spoke to Australia's Undercover about his career as a DJ in the music business and how the Osbournes' increased level of media exposure has affected him.
"Obviously there has been a huge amount of publicity about my family this year, which has had a knock on effect with me, but I've been slaving away doing this for 8 years," Louis said. "I have had some very good times, but there have also been times when things have been really bad and I've considered selling my equipment and records. So I feel I deserve the luck I've had. You have to create your own luck. There are some many talented people out there who never get their lucky break, I feel blessed by the stars I have. It's 80% hard work, 20% luck.
Asked if The Osbournes is essential viewing in his own house, Louis responded: "It doesn't really interest me that much. I was there for a lot of the filming so I've seen it all before. I can see why it is so popular. My family are pretty wacky and entertaining".
